Chat (Tales of Eternia): 1. After the Heartless overtook Inferia and Celestia, Chat found herself alone on the Van Elita. She only knows for certain what happened to Max - the towering man had gone to rescue his wife from the Heartless, and eventually the blasts from his cannon had stopped coming out of the horde. She'd tried to get refugees on board, but the only people who believed her about the threat were trying to fight it, not flee it.
2. Sometimes, she blames herself for the fate of the others. She knows that she didn't have any hope of fighting them, and without the Greater Craymel's, her ship's cannon didn't have so much as a fraction of the power needed to hold off the horde. She remembers seeing Reid sending her a grin before he and Farah went to Nereid's seal to see if that was the source of the threat, remembers taking Keele and Meredy to the ancient library and then watching in horror as a giant black monster ate it...she had done as they'd asked and wishes she'd done more.
3. Sometimes she even misses Quickie. Those are the times that she knows she's getting too depressed about things.
4. The worlds beyond Inferia and Celestia scare Chat, not because of the monsters they contain - she helped face down Nereid, for Seyfert's sake - but because for the first time in her life, she's going somewhere that her idol, Aifread, has never been. Until now, she's been following the path of his legacy - now, she has to make her own path.
5. Chat loves exploring new worlds for the same reason.
6. After a year or two of exploring, she settles down in Traverse Town - the Van Elita needs repairs, and it's as good a location as any. By this time she's learned enough about other ships that she winds up staying there, and sets up shop selling small inter-world ships based on the Aibirds.
7. Eventually, other survivors from Eternia make their way to Traverse Town. Those that remembered her tend to express surprise that a former pirate is now selling ships. To this, Chat smirks, tips her hat, and says that her prices are piracy enough.
(Note that I haven't outlined the fate of the rest of the ToE characters, excepting poor Max. And heck, he might not be done, either...*grin*)
