I chalk the weak ending arc to the fact that it is incomplete. I believe the original author died of a massive heart attack shortly after finding out it would be adapted. I personally like the bumbling, perpetually hungry Abel myself. And thankfully, that's the Abel we see most of the time. I mean, he wasn't always going Kresnik. I believe in Nightlords arc, he went Kresnik only at the end?
Funny thing is, no one I've shown Trinity Blood to at work says they like Abel. They don't hate him, but they like other characters more. One likes Tres and the other likes Leon. I actually really like the relationship Abel shares with Astaroshe (I keep wanting to call her Astaroth. DAMN YOU SHADOW HEARTS II!)
